20/03/08 Alcatel-Lucent and system integrator Hyundai-Rotem to roll out mission critical communications infrastructure for light rail in South Korea Alcatel-Lucent and system integrator Hyundai Rotem will be deploying a new mission-critical communications infrastructure for South Korea’s Light Rail Transit to connect the cities of Busan and Gimhae. Hyundai-Rotem selected Alcatel-Lucent’s access and optical multi-service solutions, enabling Light Rail Transit to benefit from enhanced operational efficiency and improved security. 19/03/08 Votorantim selects Alcatel-Lucent for converged telephony solution deployment in Brazil and abroad Alcatel-Lucent today announced that Votorantim, one of the largest industrial conglomerates of Latin America, has selected its hybrid telephony solution for a nationwide deployment in five company sites in Brazil, in addition to Votorantim offices around the world. With the solution, Votorantim will count on a state-of-art solution that meets the company’s need for better quality of voice, new services and reduced network management costs. Votorantim will deploy this system in 68 sites in Brazil for its Votorantim Metals (VM), Agribusiness (VA), Pulp and Paper (VCP), Cement (VC) and International (VI) businesses. 18/03/08 Alcatel-Lucent delivers cutting-edge e-learning, voice and Internet services to Thailand’s Khon Kaen University Alcatel-Lucent announced that Thailand’s Khon Kaen University (KKU), has implemented an all Alcatel-Lucent data network that delivers cutting-edge e-learning, voice and Internet services to the faculty and its students. The enhanced infrastructure will help KKU become a significant center of research and development in the northeast of Thailand. KKU’s Gigabit Ethernet backbone network is comprised of 90 km of optical fiber linking 8,500 connection points throughout the 120 buildings on the campus. The network provides the performance necessary for KKU to deliver a full suite of converged services, including Internet access, instant messaging, Voice over IP (VoIP), video teleconferencing and e-learning programs. 05/03/08 ewz selects Alcatel-Lucent for Triple Play Alcatel-Lucent and ewz, the Zurich, Switzerland Municipal Electric Utility, today announced that ewz has selected Alcatel-Lucent’s Triple Play Service Delivery Architecture (TPSDA) to deliver high-speed broadband voice, video and data services to residential and business customers in Zurich. The solution will provide a standards-based Open Access Network (OAN), allowing users to select services from many service providers. The contract also includes network maintenance. 21/02/08 Traders Classifieds selects Alcatel-Lucent for national call center solution in Australia Alcatel-Lucent announced that it has been selected by Traders Classifieds, the classified advertising arm of PBL Media, to install a national call center solution. Traders Classifieds will implement Alcatel-Lucent’s Omni PCX Enterprise and Contact Center Premium Edition solutions. This full standards-based IP solution, deployed by Alcatel-Lucent’s professional services partner Nexon, will enable Trader Classifieds to scale up to Voice over IP (VoIP) in future and take advantage of many of the infrastructure benefits of an IP-PBX platform. 20/02/08 Italian Trade Commission deploys Alcatel-Lucent VoIP network worldwide Alcatel-Lucent has been selected by ICE - Italian Trade Commission (Istituto nazionale per il Commercio Estero), to deploy an international VoIP network connecting more than 80 sites worldwide. Alcatel-Lucent will deploy a data IP network customized to meet the specific needs of individual offices both in national and international offices. The new infrastructure combines traditional telephony with IP and multimedia communications to support advanced services such as unified communication, collaboration services, instant messaging and mobility services. 20/02/08 Swinton Insurance boosts competitive edge with Alcatel-Lucent’s IP telephony and contact centre solutions Alcatel-Lucent announced that Swinton Insurance has deployed its IP telephony solutions across 450 sites to increase successful sales calls and ensure the highest standard of customer service. The EUR 2.5 million installation, providing more than 3,000 insurance advisors with improved call handling capability, was completed over seven months by Alcatel-Lucent’s business partner Amillan, and has already enabled the insurance broker to achieve a high return on its investment. 20/02/08 Alcatel-Lucent BiCS voice platform selected by T-Systems for mid-market managed services Alcatel-Lucent announced that T-Systems, the business customer unit of Deutsche Telekom, has selected its Business integrated Communications Solution (BiCS) server as one of the platforms for its mid-market managed voice services. Alcatel–Lucent is a strategic partner of T-Systems. This is the second innovative voice solution agreement between the two companies, providing integration of communications applications, mobile-telephony and fixed networks for seamless communications. SERVICES / INTEGRATION 31/03/08 Mobily selects Alcatel-Lucent for a three-year managed services contract for network operation and maintenance in Saudi Arabia Alcatel-Lucent announced that it has been selected to provide managed services by Mobily, the Etihad Etisalat mobile operator in Saudi Arabia. Alcatel-Lucent will provide operations, maintenance, network optimization, spare parts management and technical support for Mobily’s multi-vendor mobile network for three years. Alcatel-Lucent will support Mobily’s efforts to boost the overall efficiency of its network operations and maintenance, as well as reduce its network operating costs while improving the overall reliability of the network, thus enabling the operator to meet its customers’ fast-growing demand. 25/02/08 Alcatel-Lucent signs network support and maintenance services contract for the complete Brasil Telecom network Alcatel-Lucent today announced the signature of a major contract with Brasil Telecom, a leading integrated communications service provider in Brazil, to provide Operations and Maintenance (O&M) services for the carrier internal plant (including wireless, wireline and data networks), as well as their outside plant. The Alcatel-Lucent 7352 ISAM FTTB ONT is an ultra-compact VDSL2 access node optimized for FTTB deployments. The product complies with the Full Service Access Network (FSAN) gigabit passive optical network (GPON) standards, and supports the delivery of very high-speed broadband services (up to 100 Mbps) over existing copper pairs. 03/03/08 Alcatel-Lucent announces HSDPA version of OmniAccess 3500 Nonstop Laptop Guardian, bringing advanced laptop security to Europe Alcatel-Lucent announced its plans to support high-speed downlink packet access (HSDPA)-based 3G networks on its OmniAccess 3500 Nonstop Laptop Guardian, a revolutionary ”always on” laptop security and management system for the mobile workforce. The OA3500 NLG is currently available for CDMA networks. The platform’s newest release features an innovative 250 Gbps switching capacity per network termination (NT) module and supports load sharing between the two NTs in a single shelf. 27/02/08 Alcatel-Lucent announces new breakthroughs for optical networking and optoelectronic components at OFC 2008 Alcatel-Lucent announced, in four post deadline papers accepted at the OFC/NFOEC conference in San Diego, California, new optical networking milestones, including a new optical transmission record and three novel new photonic integrated circuits. In a post deadline paper, Bell Labs researchers in its Villarceaux, France center, in partnership with Alcatel-Thales’ III-V Lab and the optical solution company Kylia announced the successful transmission of 16.4 Terabits per second of optical data over 2,550 km. This transmission was achieved using 164 Wavelength-Division Multiplexed (WDM) channels modulated at 100 Gbit/s and represents a world record for capacity x distance at 41.8 Petabits/s.km. 21/02/08 Alcatel-Lucent installs its 200th solar-powered radio site Alcatel-Lucent is proud to announce the commissioning of its 200th radio site powered by solar energy. The site - including base station, microwave and all other electrical components - is completely powered by the sun, providing telecom services to remote communities on the island of Bettenty and surrounding Saloum islands that previously had no access to wireless communications services. Alcatel-Lucent’s GSM solution, with its minimal power requirements, has made it possible for the people in these communities to have affordable access to the wireless network. 13/02/08 Alcatel-Lucent expands technical support for IP Transformation Services in Asia Pacific with a new Center of Excellence Alcatel-Lucent announced that it is opening a Centre of Excellence (COE) for Internet Protocol (IP) Transformation (IPT COE) in Kuala Lumpur to reinforce its technical support for carriers in the Asia Pacific region. Customized for BlackBerry® smartphones, the real-time, volume-based charging solution will be hosted by Alcatel-Lucent and will seamlessly integrate with operators’ existing networks. These innovations smooth the way for the delivery of next-generation mobile services by enabling operators worldwide to construct highly resilient, enduring network infrastructures that provide greater flexibility and efficiency as networks evolve from 2G to 3G and beyond, ultimately offering truly broadband capabilities on the go. 16/01/08 SFR and Alcatel-Lucent tests in the field validate the fundamental assumptions for the deployment of a DVB-SH Mobile TV terrestrial network Alcatel-Lucent announced that, following the DVB-SH pilot jointly performed by SFR and Alcatel-Lucent from July to December 2007, both companies validated the fundamental assumptions for the deployment of a DVB-SH network co-localized, for its terrestrial part, with an existing commercial 3G+ network.The tests validated that it is possible to reuse the 3G+ sites, towers and antennas in order to deploy a DVB-SH Mobile TV broadcast network in the frequency bands adjacent to UMTS (i.e. in the S band at 2.2 GHz, currently available all over Europe). 14/01/08 Alcatel-Lucent WiMAX Center endorsed by Taiwan Government Alcatel-Lucent announced that it will open its WiMAX Application and Interoperability Testing (IOT) Center to local Taiwan customer premises equipment (CPE) manufacturers, working with the Ministry of Economic Affairs (MOEA) to help foster a robust, mature WiMAX ecosystem in Taiwan. In October Alcatel-Lucent signed a memorandum of understanding with the MOEA, at the 2007 WiMAX Forum Taipei Showcase and Conference in Taipei, in which both parties agreed to jointly promote the development of WiMAX products. Upon completion this acquisition will enhance Alcatel-Lucent’s current professional services consulting practice, specifically, OSS/BSS and software integration, enabling the company to deliver advanced service assurance solutions to carriers and industry and public sector customers. 12/02/08 Alcatel-Lucent and NEC announce a Long Term Evolution (LTE) Joint Venture as the first step in a broader collaboration Alcatel-Lucent and NEC announced the start of a broad collaboration to market advanced end-to-end communications solutions.As an important first step in this collaboration, Alcatel-Lucent and NEC have decided to form a joint venture that will focus on the development of Long Term Evolution (LTE) wireless broadband access solutions. These solutions will support the network evolution of leading customers around the world, such as NTT DoCoMo, who has already selected NEC as a vendor for commercial service deployment of its Super 3G (LTE) project, and Verizon, with whom Alcatel-Lucent has already initiated a LTE trial program. Sustainable Development 31/03/08 Alcatel-Lucent joins with Cafés Malongo, the University of Nice Sophia Antipolis, and Voilà to launch a WiMAX network in the isolated rural areas of Cap Rouge in Haiti Alcatel-Lucent announced that it has set up broadband Internet access in the isolated rural areas of Cap Rouge in Haiti. This follows on from the cooperation agreement signed May 30, 2007 with Cafés Malongo, the University of Nice Sophia Antipolis, and Haiti’s mobile telephony operator Voilà to improve coffee traceability. 28/03/08 Alcatel-Lucent joins forces with the Fondation Thiam to provide a communications solution for emergency services at the Gabriel Touré hospital in Bamako, Mali Alcatel-Lucent announced its participation in the renovation of the emergency services’ technical platform at the Gabriel Touré hospital in Bamako (Mali) by providing a complete and integrated business communications solution for all emergency services staff.
